intro: new guy saying hello

Howdy Fellas,

My name is Dan and I obviously just signed up here. I am a technician in Southern California and I work for Mark Hergesheimer at Hergesheimer Motorsports in Lake Forest California. I have been working on Porsche cars for the past 12 years of my life (32 years old) and it has been a wonderful adventure for a career... I obviously love what I do for work

I have been around these cars actively at both a dealership level (McKenna Motors, Norwalk California for 5 years) and at an Independant/race prep/restoration/vintage level (Started out at Bob Hindson Racing INC.) I was broken in by Bob Hindson Himself as a young pup in my Porsche technical infancy working at Bob Hindson Racing in Kansas City Missouri. Before that I got my mechanical feet wet working for Skip Barber Racing School and I was taught to drive competitively by the likes of fellas like Vic Elford among other great racing drivers.

Im not here to show off or brag, I will try to help and lend an internet ear to troubleshooting and things of that nature where I can and when I have the time. I just wanted to more or less say hi and introduce myself and my current pile of fascination. I have previously owned one 1979 911sc targa and many watercooled vw's but I have grown bored with those cars as a hobbyist and I have a 1965 911 currently that I have decided to bring back from the dead and put it together my way. I have alot of hopes and dreams, some of them are more unorthodox than others but I guess we will see what I can come up with.

here is a pic of my car as it sits... Its obviously a time and money pit but I have more time than money so this isnt going to be a weekend job per say... Im just going to throw my time at it and have fun because I absolutely love early cars.

there it is in all its glory (after I removed a ton of spraypaint primer)

thanks for the look, I look forward to helping out where I can.

Hi Dan,
Cool car! Keep posting with pics on your progress. I would love to own an early 911 like yours.

Hey Dan

Let me be the first to say welcome. From someone who just did his first track days this weekend, I think your pedigree of driving instructors speaks loudly. Good luck on the 1965, post lots of pics as you progress, the successes and the failures, I guarantee you get more viewership than a lot of the day time soap operas.

Hey, welcome & wonderful project. I love to see the old cars brought back to life. Imagine being 32 years old & driving a 42 year old car. That's great.

thankyou very much for looking at my project, as you well know things dont happen over night when you are doing it all on your own and Im in the same boat.

I have some updated pictures of my progress which has been mostly just taking it apart and cleaning things up. I am trying to gather some seriously old and valuable parts for it so its really slow going but Im in it for the long run and whatever it takes is what Im going to do.

I also got a set of gas burners for it which should be re-finished and detailed by the end of this week. Im bigtime into wheels and its all my brothers fault. He runs rennworx.com.

go figure

Im saving up my pennies to get some nice early deco trim for the bumpers because personally, I like the small stuff. I also bought a '66 bug to distract my time and money but I love old cars, im way too nostalgic for my own good.

Looks like you "lurked" for a while since you knew to post pics of your car .

Smart man .

As a wrench ( euro grease monkey ) I too am hurting for time and could use more money for my car .

Keep us updated with photos as it comes together .
