275/16 street tires, any sources?

I've just taken pains to set up my RS bodied '73 to accept 275 / 235 DOT Rs on 17 inch wheels. Great, I'm set for the track. This took some doing and I will post a seperate thread on what I did.

Now, flush with tire clearance, I want to run on the street with 275/225/16 tires on fuchs.

I'm not finding any 275/16 street tires. Nor 265/16. Any sources?

You're now discovering why people go to 17, 18 and now even 19s

why not street 235/275 or 225/265 in 17 or 18?

Because I have a georgous set of RSR finish fuchs that I want to run. Plus the 16s give a better ride on the street.

I believe I saw 275/50/16 BFG's (euro sport TA's??) at Toggnottis Autoworld on elcamino and fulton. Even made a comment to the wife about them being unobtanium. I can double check tomorrow afternoon if you like, its on my way home.

Hey Man,
You can get BFG TA's 265-50x16 thru Summit Racing.
They shure aint the best handling tire though.
That's another reason we use at least 17's.
You can also get tires with some real stick.
Good Luck with your quest.

Chuck

I faced this same problem on my RSR clone. I wanted to run 16's for the look and to remain vintage eligible. The only tire I could find was the Hoosiers. I had Bob Woodman groove them for me so they would work in the rain. Not the best choice, but the only one I am aware of.

Did you try Coker tire? May break the bank.

Guys I think 275/50s are too tall - ala Camaro Thats a huge side wall.

Probably needs to be a 45 series to have reasonably diameter.

Sounds like I may have to go with Skinny 255s. Or sell my fuchs

Yes, the Hoosier are the only ones I've found in that size. But I need street tires.

Those are Kumhos are full race as well. The Hoosiers and the Kumhos will be as hard as rocks after a few months. Its really not that safe they get so hard that they puncure really easy in a year or so. Just cant handle the heat cycling. (this is what I hear - not personal experience) I do have some R compounds in the garage that are a few years old....like granite.
