front crankshaft oil seal removal

I have an 86 Carrera. I think I may have a leak at the front crankshaft oil seal. Im looking in the Bentley in section 130-2 and its telling me that it can be done with the engine in the car with the few special tools listed. However, when I go out to the car, I dont see how I'm suppose to work between the front of the pully and the engine support mounting bracket. It says to look at section 270 for belt removal is all that will be required to do this job. Can anyone enlighten me. Is this just a tight workspace job?

If I can do this without dopping the engine that would be sweet!

If you are real persistent and patient, it can be done....but you'll have just as much time invested in the project by simply doing a partial engine drop and making yourself a lot more work room in the process. Just the partial engine drop part of the job shouldn't take more than an hour total; about 30 minutes for the seal removal/installation part.

Remove muffler
Remove ac brackets
Remove engine tin piece
Remove belts, and pulley

Easier said, than done, but it can be done.

I did it without the partial engine drop, but it does not take much more to drop the engine by 4 inches for additional clearance.
