Where to get Porsche tool P 217?
The factory workshop manual says to use tools P205 and P217 to remove the heat exchanger. Pelican seems to have the eqivaluent of P205 but not P217. Where can I find P217?

Not sure what the P217 is but to remove the heat exchangers on most 911's (?up to 996's?) you need the long Allen for the barrel nuts (P205) and a good flex head 13 mm socket for the other nut on the flange. To reduce chances of snapping off the studs soak w/PB Blaster for a week, tap on the nuts with a cold chisel sevral times and then apply heat from a MAPP torch until the nuts are cherry red (about 2 minutes) then witha nice smooth move loosen them. Still likely to break off a stud or two if these have not been off in years.

This is what you need, and no other special tools.

There are several different offsets..and lengths...I like using a flexible head socket...get a metric set from Craftsman...you will find a LOT of uses for them

Don,
SIR Tools has a listing ... but it doesn't seem to be for heat exchanger removal! http://www.sirtools.com/porsche_tools.htm

A good alternative for the factory long allen wrench are the T-handle allen wrench sets sold at Harbor Freight - you know the ones with the funky colored handles. They are dirt cheap of course. I have both and I think that the T-handles are easier to use. I recall that I needed to trim a bit of the plastic handle to get the wrench far enough in but that was no big deal.

I found another alternative at Sears, a "stubby" wrench.
