928S4 front & 951 rear brake upgrade for 78 911?

I have tried to do searches but it only mentions Bigred and other types of brake upgrades..
is there a list anyone has of all the items needed to complete a full swap onto a 78 911 ??
-TIA.

I did the S4(993) front brakes on my '86. It was very expensive - more than Big Reds. The 930 floating front rotors are ~$390 each.
Check out Bill V's web site if you haven't already:

The 928S4 and 951 rear calipers are virtually the same and both have 30/28 pistons.

hard to believe that search didn't turn up a large # of threads
but
once more
you need
1 x complete set of 993 calipers front and rear.
2 x caliper adapters for the front
2 x modification to 3" axial mount at the rear & modified throat. 965 rear can also be used and are more desireable due to the wide throats that are oem.
2 x front pads set
2 x rear pad set
4 x axial mounting bolts front
4 x radial mounting bolts front
4 x axial mounting bolts rear
4 x flex lines & fittings
2 x 304x32mm front rotors and mounting hats(DIN has 309x32 that also work)
2 x 309x28 mm late 930 rear rotors
2 x remove rear dust shield & mounts

you do not want any of the 28/30 variants 964/951/944/928

Thanks guys!!!!!
Bill,
I tried but I wanted to make sure the info I was getting was for the S4 set and not the BIG Red set.. Thanks for the info.

Chris.
yeah I am not going to go with floating rotors ( if I can help it ) as they DO cost a bundle...

functionally they are identical in that they have the same pistons and they use the same adapters. The difference is that the taller Big Red needs a taller rotor 322 vs 304mm and a taller pad.

yes, but worth it for track use

rough cost breakdown for me...

$350 ish - set 993 calipers and pads from a WTB post on rennlist 993 forum
$415 ish - front adapters, hats and rotors from probrake
$180 ish - 930 M/C
$320 ish - 930 rear rotors
TBD - new hard brake lines

these prices are off the top of my head, but ballpark. So roughly $1300 minus whatever you can get for your old brake setup.

Quick question guys about the extrenal lok of the 993/S4 calipers.. I have seen a set for sale VERY cheap and the one this is they are the same caliper and all but the kettering on one is raised ( like a 951 caliper ) and the other it's a painted decal... do you think they are diff or is it just that they changed the PORSCHE font the on the outside of the caliper.. i am hoping that they are the same pistion size and all..
Id there anything I can get off the caliper that would confirm that they would work with one another given the fact that they have diff PORSCHE font?
let me know if you would need a part number or anything I'll get it for you . I just don't want to buy them and find they won't work with one another.. but again they are the same looking caliper and all from what I can tell.
TIA

Eric

Who is "probrake"? Do you have a link?

None of the 993 calipers had the raised letters, that was only doone on the early 944 and 928 rear calipers, they awere all 28/30 rear . Not what you want.
Besides that they are obviously not a matched set, I wouldn't touch them.

ok.. ok.. I ditched the caliprs I had.. i bought a set of 993C4 silver calipers from ebay sop NOW I have the good stuff up front.
I think there is SO MUCH info on this now I have (OVERLOADED myself).. I have 993 front calipers... and 951 rear calipers.( IS THERE A PART # FROM SOME THAT I CAN CONFIRM THIS WITH). is this NOT a good idea? should I sell the 951's and get some 993 rears ? or is there a way to make this work with what I have and can I use a standard 930 rear rotor with the 951's IF i keep them.. ??
sorry but I am so lost in all the info.
I have read that I can make the 993's front work with 930 rotors.. and now I am confussed on the rear set up...

ARGH!

Yes to both

you want 993 or 965 rear calipers both have 30/34 pistons, the pad box on the 965 is 98mm x 67.5mm, the pad box on the 993 is 98mm x 63.5mm but can be widened enough w/ a grinder

the 34mm pistons can be identified by measuring the external portions of the piston head O/I diameter 26.5mm x 15mm

the 30mm pistons can be identified in the same way, diameter 26.5mm x 12.5mm

the 28s are 24x12mm
