If you sandblast yourself with silica media, WEAR A RESPIRATOR religiously. You don't want to f#ck with silicosis. Look it up...

This is how I cleaned up my door jamb area. You can see the speed blaster on the ground.

I still would cut and replace. Much of the areas are not visible and your amateur welds will not be seen. I'd rather have amateur welds than professional rust.
