901 gearbox codes

Hello,

Does anyone has a list of all the possible gearboxcodes and their meaning for the 901 gearboxes??

I have a 901/7 and a 911/01 gearbox and I want to know if they are 5gear, manual, auto, ...
but I can not find a full detailed list anywhere!

Thanks,

Peter

Peter,

There was a chart posted on Pelican some time ago answering your questions. Both transmissions are 5 speed manuals, the 911/07 is from a 1970 model.

Thanks for the reply!

I was not able to find that chart, so if someone has the link, please post

It is already good news that they both are 5speeds:-)

See YA,

Peter

Peter,

Your 911/01 should be AGAOVZA, I dont' know the other type number.

Using the search feature, you can discover literally hundreds of threads about these gearboxes. Here is a good link to get you started, though.

Transmission ID?

Hmmm.

911 no problem as above.

901/7 not listed in any of my references.

I suspect it might be a damaged stamp..the 4 speeder was 901/10, 902/0, or 902/01.

But you can bet the lists are incomplete..most all the factory records are shonky.

The only way to be sure of ratios is to strip and count teeth or, easier, count turns on input shaft and output flange and do the math..quite easy really..
remember the output flange will turn twice for every turn of the Diff carrier when one flange is fixed..

Kind regards
David

I agree with the above, the Type 911/01 is
‘70-’71 standard 5-speed transmission.
It is geared:

1st A 11:34
2nd GA 18:32
3rd O 23:28
4th V 27:25
5th ZA 29:22
R&P 7:31
Simplified differential (seriously needs Factory upgrade)
Reinforced input shaft (desirable Factory mod)
The difference is in the change to the 108 mm CV joints
spaced closer to the differential compared to the ’68 SWB
versions.

I don’t know of a 901/7 but there is a 901/07.
The Type 901/07 is a fairly limited transmission. It is
the last aluminum die-cast 5-speed transmission and
used in the ’69 model year. It is superceded by the
Type 901/13 magnesium pressure die casting 5-speed
transmission, also ’69.

The 901/07 is geared:

1st A 11:34
2nd F 18:34
3rd M 22:29
4th S 25:26
5th Z 29:23
R&P 7:31

But:
Simplified differential (seriously needs Factory upgrade)
Reinforced input shaft (desirable Factory mod)
The difference is in the change to the 108 mm CV joints
spaced closer to the differential compared to ’65-‘68.

I don't have a gear chart for the 901/07 but I suspect it is in some '69 911 Owner's Manals.

This 901/07 is very close to the earlier 901/02 in that
it has identical gear ratios and still the alu casting.

1st A 11:34
2nd F 18:34
3rd M 22:29
4th S 25:26
5th Z 29:23
R&P 7:31.

But:
Non-simplified differential (works just fine)
Non-reinforced input shaft (on the weak side)
This had axle flanges for the short Lobro axles with
92 mm CVs with 6-M8 bolts each.

I’m trying to carefully document this. I’ll volunteer to
rebuild both your transmissions for free. I’ll provide
the labor and photo document everything. It is the
images I want. You provide the specified parts and
shipping, including a good reusable create. I have
all the Factory tools and expertise. You need to be
patient with me, this won’t happen overnight as I’m
doing a few 915s currently (1/06).

If you want, email me at
gradyclay@hotmail.com

Best,
Grady
