paint shop will pull the rear bumper and paint that, the gas door, and the decklid off the car, then reassemble for final buffing and whatnot, as far as I understand the process...

(besides, paint work is a dark art that even we won't trifle with.... I hear sacrificial chickens are involved..?)

Why wasn't that stuff painted in the first place, if I may ask?

Really bad fiberglass decklid - was ditched and another sourced.
Bumper was to be notched for exhaust, but motor schedule was extended.

Murphy. Know him?
(there was a picture of him 2 pages back)

Yes, I would imagine this particular car is not allowed to have "really bad" *anything*.

My mistake.

The car needs to be sanded, buffed and waxed.

There is a scratch on the door and one on the quarter panel that need to be fixed.

The rear bumper (mounted on the car as it is easier to transport) will be dismounted and then painted.

The RS 3.8 wing has already been painted.

The IROC wing was of bad quality and now we are waiting for a new one from TRE.

Matteo...that car doesn't get a ducktail?

Is that too early? You're going for a 3.0 RSR look I guess...

And an IROC tail for the street.

i always liked the way the iroc cars looked with the ducktail like they were originally delivered. ...you know that pic of them all lined up on the car carrier trailer.

I am a whale tail guy. I was a teenager in the 80s and the Carrera and Turbos big tails were the most outrageous things on the street (aside from any Lamborghini).... and that image stayed with me to these days....

I can relate. I like the ducks from a moment I still remember that happened sometime around 1978 or '79.

I must have been about ten or eleven years old and on a test drive with my dad in a '69 911 he was thinking about buying.

We happened upon a sahara beige '74 carrera with a duck tail, my dad made sure he got close enough to give him the flash.

The image of that thing racing away under full song in the twisties up in front of us has never left me. ...hopefully never will.

Cheers,
JZ

WOW, it took me several days to read all of this. Based on a comment I saw Keith make (20+ pages ago), I think we should call this car Steve Austin. The statement he made was something like this.

"Zuffenhausen - Car barely alive, we can rebuild it, we have the technology"

All we need is some corny music and the 6 Million Dollar car to roll onto the screen.

I have to agree, this is probably the coolest, bad a$$ car I've seen go through a build. Can't wait to see the final results with the monster motor installed.

Thanks man... I have to say though that the budget was a bit lower than $6m

OK we had some glitches with the engine tuning.

Basically Timmins' tuning Motec guru had a car accident this Monday.
He's fine but pretty banged up and will not be able to return to work for a while.

Steve Timmins (he's such an honest person) suggested our best option was to get the motor to Peter Dawe for the tuning.

Peter is super busy but thanks to Zuffehnaus' intervention he is going to take the engine in.

The time frame is now up in the air as Peter's schedule is very tight.

I would guess we'll see the motor in 3 weeks.

This is it so far. Sorry for the disappointment... you can imagine my frustration but this is how things go in life sometimes.
