I applaud Matteo for his open book and no-holds-barred approach. He's building the dream and letting us all live vicariously! This is very special! To me the essence of Matteo's project is that of all custom hot rods and even some specialty race cars, which end up unique, but more importantly, real-life representations of the owner's dream! Why build a custom hot rod when you can buy a Chevy SSR or Plymouth Prowler? To me, it is just not the same. To those that buy the factory hot rod, good for you!

Matteo - keep up the focus! Can't wait to see how this turns out.

Doug

The 964 floor pan is in.

The RSR front pan is in.

The structural reinforcement to the rear struts are done.

The front camber towers are in.

The tub is going to be "baked" and then they will apply powder coating for all the interior at the beginning of next week.
We looked into acid dipping but decided for the "baking" process.

It should take 1 week. Then it is off to the body shop.

Putting it back together should be 2-3 weeks....

The 3.6 Vram will go in at first.

Timmins is working on the 3.9L right now...

These are the pics of the new floor pan. Note how Keith and Aaron left the t-bar housing intact. Eventually that is going to go (well the transmission need to go in the middle) and they are going to weld the pick up points for the banana arms to the original housing.

For the inside I wanted to retain the 2 back seats. So Keith cut all around the edges of the old pan and replaced the whole seating area.

Now the center tunnel looks like the one in my 993.
We have not decided if we'll need new shifting hydraulics.

I am thinking of getting the 993 RS shifter + rod directly from Porsche...
Anybody here with experience with any of the aftermarket shifters (Weltmeister or B&W)?

This is a pic of the inside tunnel.

I am planning to go to the shop again on Friday and take lots of more pics (front pan, front towers, rear reinforcements).

Let me know if you'd like so have pics of anything in particular.

Go w/ the factor shifter and rod. It is going to be ridiculously expensive.

You are going to have one very unigue car there.

The difference in the rod is at the end
Geoffry Ring posted these over on Rennlist when he did his 964 6spd conversion, RS parts on top and right, this is one of the things that an enterprenour could make fairly easily out of a stock rod

This is going to be a Wow! car even amongst the regular wows...

What is the advantage of the 964 floor pan? Is it stronger, stiffer?

The 6-speed G50/31 transmission wasn't going to fit into the '74 floorpan.

So instead of modifying the transmission housing and mounting points at Zeffenhaus they thought it was going to be better to find a 964 donor (the 964 or 993 floorpans are very similar, but the 964 suspension design is much closer to the 911's than the 993 is) and swap the entire floor pan.

It also gives us the advantage of being able to use the 993 shifter.

As a plus we have now enough room to run the oil lines underneath the car.

As per stiffness and strenght I doubt there is any real advantage over the 911 one.

Is Gert @ Carnewal (http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm) the best option to get the RS transmission mounts or should I just call the local Porsche dealer?

Matteo, do you have an estimated completion date for the 3.9L? I've been watching this thread with great interest (and no patience!!). I would like to have a similar motor built and am interested in the 3.9L's hp/tq when dialed in. My congratulations on undertaking such an expensive and unique project. I would like to have a similar engine built (within reason) and mate it to a strengthened 915. My head swims when I try to figure out what you are spending on the engine/trans alone (north of $50K by my estimation!). I'll start a thread this summer documenting the project as Porsche Doc works his magic with metal! Great project! Mike P

Mike

you can send me a PM or an email if you are interested in the final $ figures.
The engine should be completed in the next 4 weeks. I will obviously keep all of you posted.

Thanks again to everybody for the kind words and the encouragement!

Best I've seen but as you know the Euro is working against us right now.

You might try Sunset Imports in Oregon - they had the RS shifter (not the rod) in stock at good prices.

You should also know that Wevo makes a semi-solid motor mount. It's not well advertised, but I have a set in my car.

Awesome project!

The shifter isn't that expensive, the rod is, I suggested that Wevo might be interested in making these, if not i'll be retired soon and may take up a new hobby.

Just type the Porsche part number into the search engine - we can order them too...

Wayne I tried here first of course. But I didnt have the part number and I couldn't find them (not the shifter nor the RS shifter mechanism + the RS rod).
I'll send you an email either tomorrow or Monday and will try to identify the part #, OK?

Matteo, If you get a chance, take a side view pic of the /31 trans mount. I'm curious to see if it's any different from the /30 on my car.
