930 exhaust system upgrade '79 to "86

I'm looking into upgrading the exhaust on the '79 930 to an '86. What other parts do I need other than the 2 heat exchangers and cross over pipe. Someone implied there is a pricey little pipe I also need to relocate the waste gate. I'm going to retain the DP muffler.
Thanks,
H.

gumba,
It's called a "j-pipe" and it connects the passenger side header to the driver's side header. They are somewhat pricey, but I think someone is manufacturing SS types that will last longer than the OEM.

The guy at the wrecking yard called a exhaust gas line. Ties the turbo to the wastegate. List is $1500, used around $400. Does that sound right?
thanks,
H.

Are you referring to this pipe? It is available from Pelican, but you're right it is very expensive(over $1K)

That's the one. PET refers to it as "exhaust gal line".

$400 isn't bad price. Check the flange areas for cracking and the pipe for splits and dents. Other than that, you'd be good to go!

btw, you might want to check the 911/930 boards(Rennlist and Pelican). Maybe someone has one laying around.

I'll check the PET or Bruce Anderson's book when I get home from work. There are excellent pics in Bruce's book that give a visual side-by-side comparison of the early U.S. version and the RoW, and 87-89 U.S. 930's. The early U.S. exchangers/pipes are quite restrictive. Smaller diameter pipes and the tri-y type flange feeding that small pipe is not condusive to feeding a hungry turbocharger.
There have been estimates of 20-30 BHP gains when cutting over to this style of exhaust from the early U.S. version.

Is a Euro exhaust system the same as the '86-'89 US?

You can buy an entire '78-on Euro 930 exhaust system used for $400-$500. I would not bother with that pipe for that money, that's a rediculous price.
