Tell us in detail what you've done so far and how you arrived at that conclusion,

remove the air filter, turn the ignition to the on position, then reach in and lift the air sensor plate a little. You should hear the injectors squirting when the plate is lifted if the fuel pump is working correctly. It will sound like a buzzing noise and will be louder than the hum from the ignition system. Don't hold it up very long or you could flood the engine.

If the injectors do not fire when you lift the plate, turn the ignition off and start checking power to your fuel pump. Start with the fuse. Check for small cracks, sometimes they look good but are not.
Then check your fuel pump relay. They get loose and stop making contact. It might be a bad fuel pump but the other causes i mentioned are much more likely.
If the injectors fire like they are supposed to, then there is something else going on, maybe a cold start circuit.
Just remember, 99% of all CIS problems are ignition related
There are several good websites that have detailed descriptions and drawing of CIS.
Hit the search button up in the right hand corner of your screen and type in CIS or fuel pump relay or air sensor plate, that will provide more details. Good luck.

No Gas????

Jon,

The basic test for CIS system with fuel starvation is the use of CIS fuel gauge kit. Hook this up to the system and it will tell you the system, and fuel pressures. It could also tell you whether the problem is the fuel pump or blockage in the lines.

If you need more detail procedures contact me at atd911@hotmail.com and I'll guide you thru the tests. Hope this will help.

You might also want to search the forum to find out what other people have done in your situation. I ALWAYS do that before I post a question.

Welcome to the board!

- sammyg2 -

Most who know about the CIS system know that a non-functioning CSV or CS system
will NOT prevent an engine from starting (especially in warmer climates), but
just make it more difficult.

I switched the relays nothing happened, (i checked the plug also and it was wet so fuel has got in there) then accidently tryed to start it with no relay and it ran for 10-20 secs and did a huge backfire, which worried me. It has to be fuel pressure or something?? Tryed the relay over ride process with a live wire to pin 30?? not sure how this is supposed to work-with the ignition on the engine turns and the relay lights up but wont start???
tryed it again a day later same result no start with relay but could smell fuel, pull the relay out and it ran for 20 secs or so and did a huge backfire out of the airbox pop off valve (airbox filter and cover removed) I must nearly be there!!!

That backfiring you describe is often caused by a too lean mixture, which could be the result of many things, including an out of spec or non functioning WUR, air leak(s) or a lean mixture setting. The advice regarding the fuel pressure gauge is good because you can see if your control pressure is OK or not, and then move on from there. You should check for air leaks in all intake areas too. If you search you will find this is a very common occurence on CIS cars.

I also understand that an out of spec valve setting can cause this symptom.

BTW I recently had a similar symptom which appears to have been caused by a broken head stud. I hope this is not your problem.
