3.6 Turbo engine re-seal cost?

Need some guidance. Looking at buying a 1994 3.6 Turbo. Car has oil leak (due to lack of use) and will most likely require an engine re-seal at some point in the future. Any idea of the cost of such?

Your thoughts are most appreciated!

I have no idea I'm having my motor rebuilt and the bill just keeps on going.
When you get a reseal you may find oil lines, hose that need replacing and every little hose and it adds up quick. If this is the car you want get a PPI with what they will charge and see if the seller will drop the selling price. I would try to live with the leaks until you need a rebuild.

Thanks for your comments. PPI is already scheduled. Best of luck with your car!

I was quoted $3500 for a "reseal" recently. It included dismantling down to the cylinder barrels and reassembling, but not splitting the case. Oil lines not included, but as noted above these can get expensive.

If it's just a drop or two on the floor, you can live with it for a long time, but on the other hand if the engine is hemorrhaging on the exhaust header, think seriously about fixing it.

If its just that small drop, a good mechanic may find that one line. If one has looked at it and said he would do it for $3500. That may be a good solution. That one leak may be fixed without rebuild.

Good luck.
