rear defrost not working, but side mirrors are OK...

My rear defroster doesn't work but the side mirror defrost does work. They are acitvated by the same switch but does the relay in the engine compartment only act on the rear defrost?

Did you first check your the defrosting element in your rear window to see if it had continuity and that the leads were still glued onto the grid?

Check your fuses...in the engine compartment.

Also, pull the rear deck and make sure that the grid connector is plugged in.

Break the problem in half....

If you have the two stage defroster, ie pull and twist, check to see if the two relays are being pulled. There are housed in the square box on the left sid of the engine compartment. If they are working them the issue is with the element. If not work back to the fuse and so on.

Cheers

Mark.....

Yep, it's a fuse all right. I've never yet replaced a fuse in the P-car and always looked at them wit a little trpidation because they look so odd. Are these readily available at the local auto store?

Yes, should be able to buy them from local parts store.

Also, be careful replacing the fuses in the engine compartment....That fuse block is live. Or you can disco the neg. terminal on the battery first.
