Removing/Installing seats in an SC

I thought this would be easy. But apparently you cannot remove/install a front seat without removing the front bolts first, because you cannot access the rear bolts until you have remove the front ones. Or is there some secret here that I have not figured out?

Putting them back in, I cannot move them forward or backward without sitting in the seat. This is just wrong, and I did not have this problem with the seats I took out. I replace the stock seats with sport seats, and used the seat sliders of the original seats. I assume the seat rails are binding because of the installation, are there hints I should know about installing seats?

I don't remember it being this hard in my 70 911 or my 914's.

I have found that when I go to install seats in my 83SC that it helps to tighten down the "solid" side first. What I mean by solid side you will notice that one side the nuts that the seat bolts go in to are solid mounted but the oposite side "floats". I think by tightening the solid side first it aligns the seat rails and you won't get the binding you are currently seeing. Hope that helps.

What you say makes sense, but one of my problems is that it seems like the front bolts have to be removed before I can access the rear bolts. That must not be a problem for you. Are you using a typical rachet and socket to remove the back bolts? Do your seats push forward far enough that you can easily access the rear bolts?

maybe I'm not pushing hard enough, but it seems like the seats won't go forward any further.

It is very tight removing the bolts. I use a Chapman ratchet, this is a industrial tool not sure if it's available over the counter. This tool with a 1/4 inch drive adapter along with a shortened socket just fits over the bolt heads, it's very tight. If I remember correctly I can access the rear bolts with the front bolts in place. I wonder if it would be easier if the bolts were allen head vs. hex head?
