tool to remove diff bearings
Hi,
Does anyone have a source for puller that works good for removing the tappered bearings from either side of the differential on a 915. Thanks Ed |

I used a standard 2 jaw puller from Autozone- the teeth on the puller lags fit into the notched on the carrier. Only good if you are replacing the bearings- one slip and the are toast.

This thread shows
”915 Repair - What tools needed to change carrier bearings?” This is a sufficiently important operation (and you sometimes need to remove the bearings many times to get the settings correct) that a dedicated puller with the jaws ground to fit is worthwhile. Best, Grady

Just did this operation using a puller assembled out of a Snap-On puller set. Worked very well and puller jaws fit notches; also with the Snap-On set one can buy extra jaws if a custom tip shape must be ground to fit a particular job.
