Porsche Crest 911/930 Engine Test Stand

Im thinking about building an 911/930 engine test stand. Has anyone here built one and do you have pictures? Any ideas or tips would be appreciated also.

I saw one with a running 3.3 turbo engine on it back in about 1991 at a swap meet in Costa Mesa but didnt take any pictures.

Thanks in advance.

Porsche Crest

I built an air-cooled VW test stand out of a cracked transaxle housing ... no pictures, as it is up in the attic at present.

Almost any later VW Type 1 or 2 transaxle, or 901/914/915 transaxle could be used ... all that is needed is a place to accurately hang a SR-17 or SR-68 starter and battery, and add a fabricated/simulated electrical panel and dry sump tank fabbed from a metal 5-gal bulk oil bucket. Moroso or Trans-Dapt remote oil filter mount could be plumbed to AN-16 Goodrich or Aeroquip industrial hose on one end and M30 fitting on the other end to mate with scavenge line.

Thanks for the information Warren. I have an extra oil tank, starter, trans. and have some aluminum sheet stock to build a panel out of. Looks like I wont need too much. I will probably build a table out of some 2" stock.

Hi Bryan,

I have had so many other projects I haven't got around to doing this yet. I have bought some of the metal. Im hoping to build it over the summer.

If you build yours let me know how it goes for you. Goodluck.

Here's a slick way to hang a starter off your engine for only $55...
