That's my plan for next year is to convert my SC track car to rally car for historic class.

Anyone have some base tbar sizes, ride height and shock valving specs, wheel/tire sizes? I've seen 19R/26R and 22F/28R for the Prodrive SC RS.

Anniversary bump for one of my favourite threads.

I love this pic by the brilliant Reinhard Klien of one of the Tuthill Porsche cars on the East African Safari rally:

Well howdy Chaps,

An original with rally history, restored/adapted by Pat Williams Racing for the owner to register and drive on the street.....only after Pat gave it a proper brake in at a Porsche DE event at Memphis Motor Sports Park road course where he blew straight through the "M"s in the grass using the FIA curbing to get some good air.

What's really groovy about the real ones is the extensive use of race parts from 935's to 962's - lotsa magnesium. On this one the oil cooler is mounted in the trunk with the vent system to defrost one's windshield in a jiffy. Instead of having a baro sensor on top of the MFI pump to move the rack for enrichment, unlike a 935 which uses a button depressed by the mechanic for starting, this car utilizes a cable which goes up to where the heater control lever is at the handbrake. Not only for cold starts but for the pilota to alter mixture while underway to compensate for large elevation changes.

Here's the website I did for it.

Hi Guys, Thanks for the great photos-brings to mind something I've always wondered about: How difficult would it be to build a dual purpose 911, sort of in the realm of the "adventure motorcycles" ? In other words, you could drive it on the street as well as some off-road action, creek crossings, hill climbs, etc. Maybe some sort of air-ride adjustable suspension that would still be streetable, yet give some options for the weekend warrior.

Real rally cars don't have "crazy" high suspensions, so maybe just a bit higher than US spec and you are ready to rock? 15" wheels with slighty Bigger tires? Lights, rack, winch...add on forever.

Sandblast Rally

I missed it this year but attended the last two years of the Sandblast Rally.

I knew I saw that Porsche there before so I dug out one of my only videos of it from the 2008 Rally. Wish I had more...

The gentleman that owns and operates this car was written up in 911&PW recently. He owns the Porsche dealership in Chester England.

Nicely prepared car to be sure....

Im a huge rally fan and would love to participate myself....but I'm pretty sure at one point everyone ends up in the weeds...upside down.

These are all very cool pictures. And I know the talent that is required, (probably more than other racing disciplines), but there is just something wrong seeing a 911 getting all crudded up, kinda like a hot chick slopping pigs? Just MHO, carry on

My local Porsche specialist is Francis Tuthill's Workshop. The Tuthills are famous for their beautifully built Safari rally cars.

They're doing the newly-relaunched Rally of Morocco in October and recently took a 911 out to promote the event with some media demonstration days. Here's a really great bit of footage of the car in action on part of one stage - watch it in HD if at all possible.
