MFI systems and winter storage
Hi folks! Its getting chilly during the nights here in New England-soon we will be reaching for the snowshovels. So its time to think about putting the old p-car up for the winter. Used to be that you could charge the battery, remove the rodent nests and drive off in the Spring. No more-we now live in the land of 10% ethanol. Any thoughts on treating the fuel system prior to storage these days? Thanks

Plenty of threads on this, fill tank up, add stabil, crack a window, fill tires up, cover it, don't drive it unless you bring it up to operating temps, etc...

My experience with ethanol laced fuel is that it turns "rotten" in about a month.
I will not store even my lawn mower with that stuff in the tank. It is the single fastest way to cause rust in your gas tank. In Minnesota, we have "off road" non-oxygenated 92 octane for our toys. I make sure that's all that's in the Porsches, Harley and boats. (With SeaFoam, of course!)

MFI systems and winter storage
Hi- If you cannot get non ethanol fuel-is stabil sufficient to do the job? I am worried about gumming and corrosion downstream of the fuel filter. Are there other products in addition to stabil? Thanks for the answers.

I've used Stabil every year for ten years without a problem. My '72 starts right up every spring. Stabil has a new product for "marine" use. Suppose to be a concentrated, better product. I'm going to try it this winter...which means about next weekend here in Chicago.

Go out to an airport and buy some 100 octane aviation gasoline (it is unleaded if someone has a catalytic converter). You will have to sign a waiver that you won’t put it in an aircraft or they won’t sell it to you in a container. Research the paperwork first. No methanol/ethanol and good multi-year stability.
I would still add Stabil and some Marvel Mystery Oil. Be sure and drive the 911 to full temperature with the preservation gas & oil so it gets everywhere. Once parked, don’t start it again. If you need to add lube down the intakes, disable the ignition so there is no combustion. ALWAYS install fresh high octane fuel before you fire up a stored engine. The preservative oil and less-than-perfect ring seal let engine oil into the combustion chamber. This is good for ‘top end lube’ but significantly lowers the octane rating of the mixture during start-up. You don’t want any detonation during this critical period in an engine’s life. Best, Grady

I ran a gallon of MMO through mine before storage.
