Help!!! How do I find out what this Engine # Means

I have what I think is a 1971 911E Euro Model. It looks like many parts have been updated.
The Engine number is 6551315
The Engine Type is 911/44
My reasearch tells me that it is from a 1975 911S, but I don't know what the type code means.

I would greatly appreciate any input, Thanks in advance.

Best Regards, Louie

according to Bruce Anderson's book the 911/44 is a 1975 2.7 911S for California. specs same as 911/42 but with reduced power. 8.5:1 compression ratio with 160 hp @ 5800 rpm and 162 lb/ft torque @ 4000 rpm

the 911/42 is 175 hp @5800rpm and 175 lb/ft @4000rpm

post the VIN so we can determine the year/model of the tub.

Yes, the engine type code is congruent w/ a 1975 911S motor for delivery to California.

I believe a 1971 911E serial number should look something like this:
911120XXXX
broken down it is:
model = 911
year =1 for 1971
engine type =2 for 911E, 1 for 911T and 3 for 911S
Body version = 0 =coupe; 1 =targa; 2 = Karmann coupe
Sequential serial number = xxxx

total is 10 digits for a 1971 model car

"It's a 1971E with Euro gauges. The VIN is 9111210433" (From a previous post)

911=911 model
1= 1971 model year
2= 911 E engine type
1=Targa body version
0433= sequential serial number

As far as I can tell the only way to know for sure if the car was originally a Euro (at least in the earlier cars) is to go by original engine #, which in this case is no longer available.
Porsche may be able to sell you a Certificate of Authenticity and tell you original destination. I think they charge about $75 or 100 bucks for that.

Which are notoriously inaccurate....

Additional Engine Info

Thanks Tony, Mike, J.K. !!!

I really appreciate the info!!!

It is a very unusual project that I just bought.

The VIN # is 911 121 0433
Blue Plates 833WEZ
The Color Code is 1412-L (May Have been Special Order)
It has a 1980 911SC Front Suspension
911S front Bumper

The 1975 911S Engine has been rebuilt with MFI not CIS, the MFI t-Body has a Part Number of 911.101.312.1R (Possibly to do an RS Clone).
It has an Alluminum Flywheel with 3 notches???

What do you guys think?

Thanks, Louie
