How to remove?

I have a 77 911 and am in the process of removing anything I do not use. Now please bear with me, I do not know the name of the things I am trying to remove but am sure with a little explaining, somone will be able to help.

First is what I believe to be the AC compressor. It is under the front hood in a cubby hole between the dash and the gas tank.

The second thing I believe is somehow heat related. It is a plastic box lined up in the middle of the car (side to side) and just below the cowl. There was plastic pieces on both sides of it that I have removed but I can not figure out how to get this center piece out. It had hoses running to it.

Any help I would appreciate.

Thanks,

David

What you are referring to in the cubby hole is the fan motor for the a/c not the condenser. The cubby hole is known as the smugglers box. The black plastic housing up against the firewall is the fresh air blower. If you want any defrost action you might want to keep that. If you are removing it however, I believe you need to remove the screen area between the wipers and access the fastener holding the blower in place.

Thanks Tony. None of that stuff works so I am getting rid of it. I don't drive much in the winter except just to get it running so I think I will be ok without.

Think about rainy days and the need to keep the window defogged. I replaced my cold air blower with a used one for 60 bucks. You may even be able to have that fan unit fixed. You should think twice about that.

The fan housing does a lot of things, controling heated air and freash air (or both) to upper and lower vents. W/o this uint, you need to plug air entrance to the cabin or you will have no control whatsoever and a lot of wind noise. I second the advice to get a used one from a salavge yard or off our parts4sale bbs. If the fan doesn't work, the unit still does, to an extent. And that extent can make you fairly comfortable on a cold morning to the track, or a canyon run.
