87 cab alignment question

As I've mentioned in earlier posts, it's time for tires. Took it to the tire shop (NTB) recommended by local Porshe garage, and they pointed out lots of wear on the inside of the front tires, worse on the passenger side than the driver's. They suggested an alignment. As this is my first Porsche, I want to make sure they do the right job. Is anyone familiar with NTB and their abilities? They quoted $129 for the job. Should I assume they know the proper specs?

I'll call the Porsche garage tomorrow and ask if they do alignments there, and get their recommendation, but I thought I'd ask here, as well.

I've neverr paid more than $30 for an alignment, but I've never had a porsche 911 aligned either.

my RX7 shouldn't be significantly easier though, not 1/4 of the price easier anyways.

I'd suggest getting a second opinion!

thanks - I thought that it sounded a bit high, too, especially since they are replacing all four tires at the same time. I'll see what the garage quotes tomorrow, if they do alignments (they don't do tires), and ask around some with some local PCA'ers to find out who they use.

Of course, this is the first work I've had to have done, so I'm not aware of costs. That's why this forum is great!

All the alignment specs are preprogrammed in the alignment machine software, so they have the factory specs of all the cars at their disposal.

The question is, can you expect to have it aligned to spec if the car lowered below factory spec as most 911's are? Probably not.

I had 2 front end alignments done in Dallas and $129 is about right for a 911. I think a 4 wheel alignment was around $160. You can request alignment specs designed for more sport driving (DE, mild track, aggressive street) rather than OEM specs.

Having only had the car since mid December, I don't know how the PO had the car aligned. Dumb question - is there a place I can look, such as the owner's manual, that lists the various specs? Armed with that information, I'll be able to identify how it is set, and have them make the appropriate adjustments based on how I am going to drive the car. BTW, the current tires are almost 7 years old, so this may have been going on for a while.

negative camber - to make bigger tires fit can cause inside tire wear

I would have a performance shop do the alignment/lower to Euro specs/corner balance it to set it up with more negative camber, and just right ride height. That way it will handle best. You are the right course, taking to people and corroborating.
