915 throw-out lever problem

Here's the problem. I have a 79/915 and I'm trying to install a 76 throw-out lever (#13). I ordered a new helper spring pivot pin (#14) which the teeth don't match the teeth in the helper spring bearing's (#14A). The only spring pivot pin (#14) available is for a 78-86. The part number for a 76 pivot pin(#14) is 930-116-624-00 and has been superseeded by 915-116-624-00 which is the 78-86 pivot pin I bought. There are 78-86 helper spring bearings available. One other piece of the puzzle is I bought a 75-76 clutch cable. So here are my questions..

1. How are the spring bearings(#14A) removed and installed into the throw-out lever(#13)? Are they pressed in?
2. Can I install the 78-86 spring bearings(#14A) into the 76 throw-out lever(#13)?
3. What are the differences between the 74, 75, 76, 77-86 throw-out levers? They each have a different part number.
4. What part number do I need for the end of the 75-76 clutch cable I bought? Or do I need to by the clutch cable with the hooked end for the 77-86?

Sorry for being so long and thanks for taking the time. The diagram is below.

I don't believe any of the 1976 915 arms used a helper spring.

In the below diagram:

Item 5: PN 915.116.713.01 used with 915/06/16 transmissions for 1974 911 and 911S and 2.7 Carrera.

Item 6: PN 915.116.713.04 used with 915/40/43/45/48 transmissions for 1975, '76 and '77 911S and 2.7 Carrera.

Item 7: PN 915.116.713.05 used with 915/44/49/60/65 transmissions for 1975, '76 and '77 911S.

Jim I'm looking at arm 13. The one I have looks like that. The number on the side is 915.116.713.5R. Is that the same as 915.116.713.05? That's why I thought it was a 76.

The figure I posted is from the factory parts catalog for the years 1974-1977.

I also stand corrected; arm 13 (PN 930.116.713.03) was also used for 1975,'76 and '77 911S in transmissions 915/61/66 and in Turbo Carrera transmission 930/33.

The clutch cable needs to be matched to the transmission number as apparently there were three different types of arm used in 1976.

If you're using a 915 from 1978 it may just be easier locating a 1978 arm rather than trying piece together parts from different years.

Jim thanks for the help. The trans I have is a 79 915/61. If I understand you I should be using the 77-86 clutch cable(930.423.401.05) because it's a 79. So do you have any idea if I can change out the helper spring bearings (#14A) on my diagram? Pelican sells them for about $7 ea. and it takes two. The only thing I'm not sure of is how they come out. Not sure if they were pressed in.

According to my references 930-423-401-05 is the correct clutch cable.
The factory shop manual shows the arm needle bushings (#14a) for 1978 models being driven in and out using tool no. 9153 which appears to be nothing more than an appropriately sized drift. The arm is shown resting on the top of slightly open bench vise jaws with the old bushings being driven down (a soft faced hammer being applied to the drift) into the gap between the vise jaws. There is no mention of heating the arm to ease bushing installation. The section says to lubricate the bushings with water proof silicone or lithium based grease after installation.

Jim again thanks for the help. I'll give Pelican a call tomorrow and order the clutch cable and bushings and give it a try. I'm trying to get everything together before I install a 3.2 with the 915 into a 70T.

Measure and note the depths of the existing bushings from both sides before driving out so you know the proper depths to drive the new ones.

Anyone know if the diameter and spline count for the throwout shaft (#2) is the same for the different year throw out levers? I have a 915 that came without the short throwout arm (#18 ) and I can't spend $300 for a new one. If the older arms (5,6 and 7 ) have the same spline/ diameter (yes, I know they have different lengths) I could fab something up to work as they might be found cheaper. It's going in a kit car so I have room to work. Thanks!
Jeff
