Smile Soaking in the rain?

Do you think it can cause damage to the engine if parking the car outside on a rainy day? It seems that water may be able to run into the engine through the air vents on the rear wing.

All I can say is the cars were designed in Germany where it rains a lot. Personally, I avoid leaving cars out in the wet, but the Boxster has been out in the rain all day today. Not the best for the canvas top, even though I've treated it with Raggtopp.

I would "waterproof" the ignition if you must leave your car out. I had a Jag years ago that couldn't make it through the first puddle (distributor down low on the side of the block) until I treated it with something from the well known family of McKays auto products. Don't remember the exact product, but it worked very well.

This is a German car, not an English immitation of a car. It's OK to get wet.

I agree that German cars are very sturdy and strong. However, I've been told that if the car is left outside for the entire night in heavy rain, the water that run into the engine through the vents may cause damage to the engine belts, etc.

As long as you don't have leaky wires, you should be OK.

Not to be a smart a$$ but, why would anyone be concerned about their car getting wet and thus causing mechanical problems. Jaguar's, I would understand, seen many a Jaguar sitting at a stop light in torrential rain with the windshield wipers and headlights not working.

If your car get's wet and has a problem, then something is wrong and it needs to be addressed. Again, Jag's excluded.

Mmmm, i have wondered about this. What do you do if you don't have a garage? What do you do when you wash the car?

Personally I dont take mine out unless its dry, but if i get caught out I make sure I go fast enough that the water can't drain down into the engine until it stops raining.

Oh, and I never, ever wash it

This is how I test my ignition system. If I can't drive off without my engine sputtering and missing after this soaking then there's something wrong.

You might say I have no problems in the rain now that I have my distributor cap sealed and a good set of ignition cables....

Cheers,

Joe

Rain does nothing to a 911. Ask mine, she loves it.

My SC loves the rain. No problem starting and the CIS actually seems to behave better when it is wet outside. Go figure.
