Eliminating the external voltage regulator
Once you have eliminated the external voltage regulator on a '74, are there any wires that can be removed from the engine wiring harness ? I was in the process of getting rid of the CIS wires so I thought I'd ask.
61 Blue (stays) B+ Red (stays) D- Brown (???) DF Black (???) I read the tech bulletin and it says to cut off the black DF wire. So is that the black #13 PIN wire in the harness? 1) I am not sure about the black wire. 2) D- Brown wire in the engine harness connects to a solid brown wire in the car harness? Thanks!

Stephen,
Yes, the Black wire can be removed from the engine wiring harness.

Warren,
Can the D- brown wire be grounded any where on the car? The reason I ask is because the wiring harness had been messed with on the car side. I am unsure which PIN the brown wire should match with. It was going to my tach (you actually helped me in another thread fix that problem). So, does the brown wire match up with a brown wire in the harness? Does the brown wire go to a device or just a ground on the mounting plate for the 14 PIN connect & CDI box?

That is what I thought. I cannot find an all brown for it to go to in the 14-pin connector. If it's just a ground I'll probably just ground it to the 14-PIN connector housing.

Current flow diagram available here in the pelican site, german wiring mantra is brown=ground
generous motors tended towards black, but no firm rules as the germans, veeery tekneekal!!
