Pre-Purchase Inspection
Not a dumb question. You'd feel a lot dumber had you bought said flood car for $25K when a $200 PPI would have steered you away, instead.

Pre-purchase inspection. Usually by a Porsche dealer/mechanic.

Yes, definitely. With that vintage you need to look for rust and deteriorated glass/body seals - there's a checklist out there, do a search or maybe a Pelican will direct you to it. There's nothing better than finding a good Porsche and nothing worse than getting taken on a bad one. Good luck! (fingers crossed)

FYI - These flood cars are starting to pop up all over the country.
My brother is one of those pop a dent guys. He has a rout with a dent removal company. He went to a local dealership to work on a new pickup truck. He had to pop out the bedliner and a tail light in order to pop the dent. Under the bedliner was full of dried mud and the tailight was packed with mud too. One of the salesman were nearby and quickly said something about all the mud these 4x4's throw. The truck had less than 1000 miles on it. Beware.

aleng888,
Here is a link to a very informative post about PPI's from the rennlist board. http://forums.rennlist.com/ You'll have to go to the air/oil cooled section and click on 911. At the top of the forum there will be a sticky about pre-purchase inspections. Here is an article from Pelican: http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/technical_specs/911_guthrie_faq.htm http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticles/911_prepurchase/911_prepurchase.htm And I have a word checklist that I downloaded, but cannot find where I downloaded it from. Send me a Private Message (PM) with your email address and I will gladly email it to you. Please read the post about buying a rusty bent car and don't make the same mistake. Do a search on the mid-year cars 74-77 and learn about the weaknesses of the engine in those particular years. And for all it is worth get a PPI. Here is a link about possibly making a deposit and having a contract figured out about if the car passes the PPI you will buy it: the buying process Also if you need help finding a shop to do a PPI do a search here first if nothing turns up ask usually someone can help direct you to a good mechanic. Good luck and if you buy post some pics of your new ride. Rich

I had a similar issue regarding a car that I purchased. I spoke to an attorney and the advice was that as long as I stated facts about my experience w/the previous owner and the condition of the vehicle (which could be verified) I could not be successfully sued for libel/slander.
It is (apparently) also illegal to threaten legal action and not follow through. So you can't just go around threating to sue people, although enforcement of that rule must be tough. It costs money to take legal action so if something is clearly not winnable I think you're safe. You're more safe when dealing with an individual than with a dealer who may have deep pockets to defend its reputation.
