Roll Bar Topic

I am in the market for a roll bar and I had a couple questions. Firstly I have seen a thread about Matter Roll bars which look very nice and was wondering if they make them for SCs and if so where do you get one? Secondly of the bolt in brands out there what are the pros and cons of each and your experiences with them.

Lets see here, I have heard of:

Saftey Devices - Comes powder coated and is less than the DAS bar.

DAS - Lots of people run them, do they come painted?

Matter - ?

others?

Thanks for your time guys.

Autopower. I had it powdercoated black prior to placement and the fit and finish is good. Many can spend more I guess, but all it is tubular steel.

Custom Fab!

My Vote is for custom fab
roll bar:

If you do the prep work, less expensive than you think, fits closer to the body than is possible with a bolt in. And with a big saw, anything is "removable".

If you are serious about safety, this is the way to go...

You might want to look at DAS, bolt in and PCA legal

Took this of NorthStar Motorsports site:

Quote:
Safety Devices is Europe's number one supplier of Roll-Bars and Cages to the motor sport industry. The manufacturing methods involve a sophisticated production process which includes CAD design, laser cut components, computer controlled bending, jig-built welding, and finally phosphating and powder coating to produce the finest finish in the industry. These cages are FIA, SCCA, PCA, and BMWCCA approved. The most obvious advantages with Safety Devices is the tight fitment to the interior and proper mounting points. The mounting points are typically to the Longitudinals or Boxed members, which gives you extra chassis stiffening (when using a full 6 point cage) by greatly reducing the longitudinal twisting of the chassis and also allows the fitment to be as tight to the interior as possible, therefore giving you the least intrusive cage on the market. Made from Cold Drawn Seamless tubing (CDS), Safety Devices six point competition cages are the finest in the world, made to the most exacting standards. Structures provide maximum compressive strength with the minimum possible bends so avoiding the weaknesses in sharp bends. The manufacturing methods involve a sophisticated production process which includes CAD design, laser cut components, computer controlled bending, jig built welding and finally phosphating and Satin Black polyester powder coating to produce the finest finish in the industry. The revolutionary 'saddle bracket' joint developed by Safety Devices is approved by the FIA, RAC, MSA. These cages are PCA Club Race approved.

You can go crazy and spend a lot on a roll bar. They are really just a medium between a harness bar (which should be avoided) and a full cage (which are generally not recommended for street driving). They offer a moderate amount of crush protection, but no where near what a full welded in cage would. I would say the biggest use I have for them is a proper anchor for my harness's and camera. If your worried about having real protection, a full cage is the only alternative.

or, go to your preferred racing/cage shop and pay for the rear portion of a full cage. Then, if you or a future owner decides to go racing, you are halfway (and properly) there.

I had a DAS, now I have an OG. The DAS can restrict the seat travel in your pre 89 911 if you have aftermarket seats. I prefer the design of the OG in regards to how and where it mounts and it fits tighter to the car. YMMV

Cheers

I have a DAS Weekender, bolt in, and Recaro SE seats. The DAS bar does indeed restrict the seat travel, due to the seat back adjustment mechanisms. I'm going to find a weld in bar and sell the DAS because of this restriction.
