A 911 technical Rube Goldberg.
A 911 technical Rube Goldberg.
Imagine each one of these steps with 911 parts. Please post your ideas for demonstrating Porsche’s technical excellence. http://www.steelcitysfinest.com/HondaAccordAd.htm This video was shot in one take, in real time, with no computer graphics or editing. It required 606 takes and cost $6 million to shoot and took 3 months to complete. The equipment was so precisely set up that the crew literally had to tip toe around the set for fear of disturbing things, which led to some unexpected problems. Didn't know who Rube Goldberg was? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rube_Goldberg I particularly like the windshield wipers. Best, Grady |

That was a dang cool commercial... totally Rube Goldberg inspired. Sometimes I wonder if he worked on my car before (the coupe), because there was a lot that was buggered up in the wiring... (then engine stays running if the headlights are on, and you turn off the ignition...)

That was REALLY neat Grady! Of course, having owned both italian and british automobiles (willingly) leads me to believe that I may be oddly attracted to excessively complicated devices that perform relatively simple tasks (many examples of this in my 76 jaguar's wiring system...).

Here is my vote for an original Porsche Rube Goldberg to be
included in the sequence – the 2.2 911 clutch cable & linkage. " "© Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche A.G. Best, Grady |

Or how 'bout those goofy Mercedes windshield wipers...the ones where rthe driver side sweeps 80-90 degrees and the passenger follows quickly behind doing 170-180 degrees.....

I've seen that video before, but it is just as impressive the second and third times!
From what I can tell, most Porsche engineering is pretty straightfoward and simple. In some ways, MFI borders on impressive engineering, but also a Rube Goldberg device, too. Think about all the different things happening in synch? Doug

How did they get those three tires to keep rolling up that ramp? That part didn't look right.

I have the making of that commercial--the tires had a bunch of weight on the other side. Other parts from the car, actually.

That's more art than science, but Rube was more fantasy than reality, anyway. I wish my job was that fun. I once flipped a desk pen 15 feet across my dorm room and to my amazement, it slipped right into its mahogany holder. Six beers, two hours and 300 tries later, I gave up. Some things aren't meant to happen twice.

defcon65,
I can’t stop laughing. We can see why it took 606 takes and millions. I have had un-repeatable things happen also – many on track. Perhaps double the beers and trys. HeHe. Best, Grady

Entertaining video, saw this a few yers ago -
Not to poop on the party, but several of the movements are physically unbelievable. The wheels rolling up the ramp in that fashion...absolutley no way. The muffler rolling & neatly stopping, nuh-uh.
