Headlight Switch??
Hi guys, The car is a 76 Turbo. When the headlight switch is pulled to first click the front parking lights don't work and the headlights turn on but very dim. Both back parking lights appear to be working. Pull the switch fully out and headlights work but no parking lights in the front. Is this a faulty headlight switch issue or do I have another problem? Thanks for the help. Jeff

Do you have a euro car? When the switch is pulled out to the first notch to turn on the running light circuit, it probably turns on the city lights (dim, smaller bulb inside the headlight just to make the car visible at night) which are supposed to come on with the parking lights. When you go to the second notch the headlights come on (at full brightness) like you would expect them to do. The reason the front "parking" lights don't come on is that they are signal lights only. In a North American 911, there are two lights in the front bumper on each corner. They are each about 1.5" by 4" or 5" wide. In the ROW cars there is just one of these lights on each corner. They are signal lights ONLY. There are no amber lights that come on with the rear running lights or head lights. Sometime around 1980 they started including fender repeater lights between the front wheel and doors.
This presupposes that you have a euro or ROW car. This can be confirmed by the ZZZ at the beginning of your VIN. What the ROW cars look like. They would normally have a black rubber piece where the scoop is. ![]() The North American cars will have two lights like this ![]() Hope that helps.

Thanks for the replies. Gerry, yes I do have access to a multimeter and I'll have to look if I have the Bentley book. It seems strange that the parking lights in front don't work yet they are fully functional in the rear. On the fuse panel it looks as though the parking lights are wired left and right. When I pull the corresponding fuse to the left or right the rear light for that side will go out. Put the fuse back in and rear light will go on but nothing in the front. Kevin, the car is a U.S. spec car with both parking lights and turn signals. Ideas??????? Thanks, Jeff

Without a '76 Bentley, I can't be of much help. Find your Bentley, and Email me the circuit diagram, or, perhaps someone else will chime in with the info. Also, do a search, or try this......... http://www.cannell.co.uk/Manuals.htm Good luck, Gerry

That would be great. Don't have a Bentley, do have a Haynes but it is very general. Not sure if it even has a wiring diagram. The fuse box panel is labeled left and right parking lights. How would I test this with the multimeter. Labeled left and right but only fronts don't work. The rear is fine. What the heck!!!!!!! Jeff
