find a wall at night and park back 20 ft. the F's on the lens is high beam and the A's are low. stand behind each side of the car and check that the highs aim straight and at the same level as the fender and the lows dip a bit and are off to the right a bit.

Level floor, darkened area, vertical wall. Park the car with its front end about 20-25 feet from the wall, adjust all four beams independently using each beam's screw. When you have them close to where you think they should be go for a drive and check them. H1s are PIA, probably the worst lights of all.

Set the low beams first. After an adjustment walk to the back of the car and sight down its sides. The "spot" of each beam should be just to the right of the top center of its fender, and it's center should be about 18" up from the floor.

Do the high beams last. Each high beam "spot" should be directly ahead of its fender, at roughly the same height as the fender. Make chalk marks on the floor and wall for the car's tires and adjusted "spots" (brightest part of the beam) in case further adjustments are needed. Go for a drive, the above will get you in the ballpark but the headlights can be fine-tuned for your driving needs.

Not sure where I learned it (edit: Daniel Stern Lighting), but I pull the car right up to the wall and mark the spot directly in front of the each light. Then I back the car away from the wall and realign the lights to the same spots. That get's them pointed straight ahead. Then I adjust to my taste.... I like pointing the high beams out and up a bit - my driving lights fill in the small gap in the middle.

You want to see this pattern ___/___/ on the wall. The point where it goes up is your center for each lens. I measured the center of each lens as the height limit, but as Master Z stated 18" is a safe non blinding the other driver height.

Take care to make sure the adjustment screws are not damaged or attached to the rubber adjustment points, you may just be turning and going no where. Visually both internal assembly should look the same.

As GTC suggested, his starting point makes sense. I would also add parking the car along the wall as close as possible on the driver side to see if the beam is level, not too angled down or up.

Break Leg Brother!

Perfect! Thanks. Works great.

Daniel Stern's Web page (Daniel Stern Lighting Consultancy and Supply) has a page that outlines the procdure with a flat wall and tape measure.
