Has owning a Porsche impacted your kids?
Curious what type of impact owning a Porsche has on your kids?
For example: My son got a remote controlled Carrera GT. After showing it to me he headed upstairs. I asked where he was going and with all the seriousness in the world he said " I am going to drop the motor" In another case we were at a pet store and a lady had medium size stout looking dog with her. My boys asked me what kind of dog it was and I told them to ask the lady. After speaking with the lady, my boys boy rushed back and reported it was a "Boxster"

Well, not my kids cause I dont have any to corrupt but...
I told my father he should drive my car at a track day, he did and the next weekend flew to DC on business and instead of flying back he bought and drove home his own 911...

My daughter has mastered the correct pronunciation of Porsche (2 syllables, please) by the tender age of 3.
My Dad, just two nights ago, was raving about a '69 Targa he saw. I never thought I'd see the day. He's been a tough nut to crack...

So far my teenager daughter and I 'do the Porsche thing' and her friends think it just to coolest; so, so far so good. We flew to NC last summer and picked up what will probably be her first drive, an 86 944; she 'helps' with working on the 911 and of course all the boys want to be my friend which is okay with me; we do swap meets, visit the new Cayman; took our friends Cayenne out for a short (2hour) drive; she is a really neat person so staying in Porsche's at least until she finishes school and college (encouraging her to get a doctorate) is a must.

Pre-Porsche my kids went to private schools and lived in a gated community. Now that daddy's on the 911 crack pipe they ride the public school bus and live in a double-wide with a 6 car climate controlled garage and lift out back.

My two year old boy has the correct pronounciation of "Porsche" down to a T.. He has a pedal Porsche.
He and his five yr old sister run around the house singing "Steve McQueen" and play the song over and over by Cheryl Crow. My daughter calls my 911(s) -(gone through a few) " The new Mach 5" As she likes the speed racer cartoons... Otherwise not much................. |

Mike,
Absolutely! First grade Show ‘n Tell was a GT2 914-6 on an open trailer. I had rigged it where it would free-rev to 5000 RPM and had an extension on the throttle pedal and a big seat extension. Every kid in the class got to sit in the driver’s seat and make twin megaphone songs. The Denver GP probably was a turning point. At age 7, Bobby Rahal let Chris sit in his Indycar for 20+ minutes. He explained all the controls and much more. Chris was hooked. After Bobby ran out of fuel at some South American race, Chris sent him a 1 ml bottle of methanol. At age 10 we decided to go serious kart racing in a 5 HP Briggs & Stratton. The early teen years were full of kart racing, basketball, baseball, black powder shooting, mountaineering, horses and much more. The shifter karts were F1 performance. Most important were academics – nothing like incentives during those growing up years. At age 16 SCCA gave him a National (W) license and he got a ride with a Spec Miata team. Testing in Formula Mazda produced under track record times. He is now a college sophomore and owns three Porsches that he has never driven; resting quietly awaiting graduation. With a current 3.4 GPA cume he will earn some more fun. Caption: What do you mean I have to change these tires? (age 14) At 16 here was the difference between what you want (right) and what you get (left). Chris (at about 13) met John Paul Jr. at a race and they struck up a friendship. During those years John would call Chris regularly inquiring about his race and academic success. Nothing like having calls from an Indy driver to inspire a kid. What is next? Colege graduation. I won’t support his becoming a pro driver. His interest is in business, horse training and breeding. Porsches and gentleman racing are the rewards for success. Best, Grady |

Not to dampen the mood, but you guys are really lucky. Both of my daughters could care less. In my club racing days, my oldest used to say, "Gee, dad, finish last again?" Not poor me-ing, just saying it's good to recognize what you have. Not that it wouldn't be nice to have someone to go to the track with, you know?

When ever my six year old son sees a sports car he goes: Dad, that must be very fast car - but your Porsche is faster, right ?
I always respond yes - even the other day when we met a Ferrari F430..

My father tortured me by parking this car in a barn on the east coast, I am the one on the right. All my childhood I just wanted a ride. Finally 17 years after parking it and empty promises he and I pushed it out of the garage and he gave it to me as a graduation gift from college. Nothing like a rusty mildewy mid-year as a graduation gift. It should be against the law to give a broke kid a rusty 911 that has been parked for 17 years! Now I browse Pelican like a junky, dismantle the car, read and re-read 101 projects, How to rebuild you 911 engine, Porsche 911 performance handbook, and I have a stack of old excellence magazines that I read all the time. My father turned me into a Class I porsche nutcase, and up until last summer I hadn't even ridden in a 911 out of a childseat. Watch what you wish for! ! ! Rich

my 4-year old boy can somehow spot a 911 a mile away, and whenever a sports car passes us on the freeway, he always says "your 930 turbo is faster than that car". . .a future boost junkie

Yes; I choose not to have any and thus keep spending the diaper, food, clothing, college money on my 911!
So far, the wife still agrees.

The impacted is on my kids language ... they've learned how to properly use the word "crap" and various other really cool curse words by watching daddy work on his porsche.

My son oves helping Daddy in the garage. Even if I am working on something other than cars, he gets my jackstands out and puts them in front of the 911. Of course, last night he thought it would really neat to hit the front fender of the 911 with a hammer. DOH!!!!!!!!! No damage but man, was I pi$$ed!!!!
I kept my cool and now my hammers hang just a bit higher on the pegboard. I think one of his first sounds was the vroom vroom sound that he says my car makes. My daughter is only 3 weeks old but I will make sure she is just as involved in the garage with me.
