Carrera intake before & after

I am rebuilding the engine on the 88 Carrera and have been spending a "little time" in going over all the components during the rebuild. Put the fuel system back together this weekend. Have done some cosmetics and had the injectors cleaned. It's a good feeling in getting things back together. A few before and after shots of the intake.

WOW what did you do to make that thing glimer like that. Clear coat it???

Bead blasted it several time then clear powder coat over the natuaral aluminum. Have a few hours getting the casting marks off and cleaning before baking it. I wasn't sure how I was going to like it but it is growing on me.

Looks good/clean, but since it's out, why not polish it?

Seriously considered it. Just removing the casting marks took about 10 hours of grinding, sanding and bead blasting to get the finish even and clean. With all the other prep going on for the engine rebuild I decided not to spend the time to polish it. Wasn't going to spend as much time on this as I did but you know "while your in there".

Did you also remove the Cad plate from the fuel runners?

Seems to be the project of the weekend... Did mine too.

Just polished them. The polish took off the chromate and leaves the polished silver cad. Not sure how it will hold up but I will see.

What did you do to smooth the finish before polishing? Looks good. What did you for a new fuel line?

I just took a big Makita grinder to the casting marks and extra brackets... took about 15 minutes. Sorry yours took so long, sometimes bigger power tools are better

I then had them powder coated in what they call "near chrome." I think it looks like polished and then anodized aluminum.

Fues rails were zinc plated and then all the rubber fuel lines were replaced with SS braided line and aeroquip fittings.

Looks good guys - although my powdercoater recommended not to go with the "near chrome - that's the direction I was going too.
