need imput on replacing 911 door pockets

Has anyone tried the fiberglass aftermarket door panels for the 74-89 911's? Any suggestions on a source for fiberglass pockets?

I ordered the fiberglass door pockets from our host for my 75 Targa - they are being installed right now as my car is almost done being reassembled after the full paint job.

I haven't seen them on the doors yet but they looked nice when I received them from Pelican!

The ones I got here come pre-covered in carpet with vinyl on the inside of the pocket.

I put the fiberglass ones on mine. Went on easy and look good. If I was doing it all over....I might well leave them off and use the RS stlye carpet and door kit since my ride is not particularly collectable.

Couple of questions.
Are there better grades of replacement fiberglass pockets or is the quality pretty much the same? Is the flocking available on the insides and do they look stock?
Has anyone tired to restore their fiberboard pockets and maybe stiffen the upper lip with a metal strip under the carpet covering?

I fixed my door pockets with fiberglass and JB weld. The piece was broken where it attaches to the door handle on both sides (when I bought it). I bought a Bondo fiberglass kit and after cleaning off the flocking from the plastic, I put a strip of fiberglass on the inside covering the cracks and the missing piece. Then I built up the missing area with JB weld, and then filed it flat and put a strip of fiberglass on the outside. I drilled a hole for the screw and it has been working nicely for 6 months now. It is nearly invisible unless you are really looking for it.

I have considered attempting a repair of my door pocket. Fiberglass should strenghten the damaged area at the bottom. Could be a bit of a mess, but nothing ventured..........

I have two straight pockets to use as replacements for my bowed out pockets (which I'd like to sell). I need to fix the replacements at the door handle mounting point, but if anyone knows how to reinforce/fix the bowing out issues, I'd attempt that too before selling.

One of the things I have thought about with the bowed upper lip of the pockets was to use a 1/2" or 3/4" aluminum strip to go around the perimeter on the inside of the pocket. The fiberboard material would need to be glued and riveted to the aluminum. I figured you could pull back the outer carpeting to get to all of this. Then reglue the carpet and reflock the insides. The folding over of the material should hide the aluminum edge and the black paint and flocking mask it on the inside. The stiffening would help the mounting at the door pull. It should help prevent sagging at the pocket lid/armrest. Unfortunately, I haven't attempted this yet.

I have fiberglass for mine as well. They are durable and you can rest your arms on them without worrying that they might sag. I like the door pockets for that reason.

I have repaired mine. They were sagging and pieces of the lower lip where the screws attach were missing.

I heated the door pocket with a heat gun until it became soft. Then I cold straighten it out clamping parts between 2 pieces of wood and wait for it to cool down.
I got them quite nice and straight again. The missing/damaged areas I repaired with fiberglass.
