Engine Tin help?
I did a search....didn't find what I was looking for....Can somebody fill me in on what is involved in removing the engine tins for repainting?....can it be done while the engine is in the car?...how hard are they to get out...I plan on doing this when I polish the fan and paint the housing as part of an engine detail...any help would be appreciated.

Unless you drop the engine I think it would be difficult to replace it.
Then it's pretty simple

If you just wanted to remove the engine tin pieces that are visible (i.e. not including the one forward of the engine), you can do that with a partial engine drop of a few inches (and barring something unforseen, that's easy to do). I did that on mine...
edited: I just remembered something.... on your car, you will have to remove your muffler & heat tube (unique to the Carreras) in order to remove the rear piece of engine tin (that the heat tube protrudes through, left of the distributor). That was no problem for me, but if your exhaust system has never been apart, that in itself can be a real PITA. As far as removing the tin itself, if the engine is lowered a few inches, there's just a few screws, and the pieces can be removed. Last edited by KFC911; 04-09-2006 at 06:02 AM.. |
