Hey Guy's -
I know that this may be a stupid question , but can a G50 trans be put in a 3.0 79 SC , and if so what are the biggest problems faced ? Thanks in advance, Todd

It is possible, but it takes a lot of work. You have to cut up the rear seats to accomodate the longer G50. There is a lot of other work too I don't know all the details. Not something I could even think of attempting with my skills.

Here's mine out of a car... To make a g-50 work in an early car (pre 1987) you either need to perform major surgery - OR buy a g-50 with a shortened bell housing from Patrick Motorsports.

Todd check out the third page of this thread:
http://www.911net-club.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=29198 It is all in French but I think he is dropping a G50 into a 915 car. I didn't realize that patrick motorsports had a shortened bell housing for g50's that is good to know thanks. Jeremy

My buddy Dean put a G50 in his SC (with a '75 Turbo motor). He shortened his G50, changed the pedals and shifter and move the motor back in the chassis some.
Look into the costs, I suspect buying a G50 car and selling your SC might be cheaper. -Chris

have to change from a cable operated clutch to a hydraulic clutch which, I think, involves changing pedals, adding in clutch master and slave cylinder. Also the G50 is longer so the torsion bar tubes need to be cut out and changed over to the tubes for the G50 or the car needs to be altered to accept coilovers.
It's a huge, pricey pain in the butt. I'd say that unless you are racing with high power and ultra grippy tires it's not really worth it. PS Do a search, the G50 into an earlier car has been gone over in detail many, many times.
