power window regulators.

In an effort to share some info, here is something to remember.
I have been having issues with my power windows since the day I purchased the car. The pasenger side quit working a few years back, and the drivers side finally became such a pain that I had to open the door panel and investigate.
My first thought was that the regulators were going bad, and I was not 100% wrong since the passenger side is toast! The drivers side seems fine, the culprit was simply the arms had gunked up and were just not working properly. I cleaned them up and after some new grease the window works like new.

Also...unless you have super small hands don't even think about messing with the connector for the power windows in the fender! lucky for me my 9 year old daughter was willing to help.

so what symptoms did your passenger side give you up until it just died out? My passenger side doesnt work only when it rains out or the window gets wet.
My drivers side works just fine.

All you needed to do was clean the gunk and they work now, is that ocrrect?

both windows would work ok in dry/warm weather and not so well in the wet/cold weather. For example to get the drivers window down I would use one hand to pull down on the glass while the other hand operated the switch! PITA

I cleaned the the window tracks (verticle) and the arms/guides. After the cleaning I added a lithium grease to the arm guides and that was it. The guides were simply dry in spots and gunked up to the point that the arms could not slide in them due to the resistance. As for the passenger side motor it's burned up as it will not work when voltage is applied.

on a scale of Waynes "101" 1-10 for difficulty, what would you rate this job at? I need to do it, but I fear it's too complicated. When I installed my new doorstops, I was about to embark on cleaning up the regulators since I figured I had the doorpanels off but it looked like a big job of trying to reach way in there.

this was a simple project once the door panels are off. I was shocked at how well I could reach all of the tracks and check the connections on the motors. So....a 1 mechanic scale for sure.

I had a similar experience as Smitty, but my driver's side glass was also starting to come unglued from the channel ( without me knowing this). One day the glass would not go down, then it fell with a horrible clunk/crash. Luckily it just skimmed past the arms and did not break. I lifted it back up, taped it in place, then began cleaning/regreasing the risers and then regluing the window into the channel. Not a very hard job, and pretty amazing as how the door panels & trim are attached. Not a big problem at all.
