70 Color Chart

Here's some scans of the original color chart from 1970.

Brandon,

Great post.

This is wonderful stuff every 911 owner should have access to. Perhaps Wayne can archive all this by year and model.

It would be useful for you to include a color index strip with your scans. That will allow color correction for someone trying to match the original.

I’ll encourage your keeping all this in one thread. You can get the moderator to combine them.

One thing Porsche didn’t explain in this interior option chart was the different colors of “dog tooth check fabric.” There was the standard black and white. There were also 3-color wool fabrics: black-white-burgundy; black-white-tan; black-white-green, black-white-blue and possibly more. I have a pair of ’69-’71 seats with black-white-burgundy.

Corduroy was an extremely rare seat option. I have seen only a very few.

Thank you for posting this. It is an invaluable resource.

Best,
Grady

To keep it all together, here are two of my favorite sites for early car colors:

So a 1970 911 S would fall into one of the 9 colors listed above? I'm having trouble figuring out what color my car was originally since the id plate is missing. This is the greatest post, relevant to me that I have seen in a looooooooooong time.

Brandon thank you so much for this info.

brandon,
thanks for the historic post. I am curious to know why the metallics were not on your chart(s). I know they were an option, but silver and gold metallic were available in 1970 (and earlier), not just as paint to order, but a factory option, I believe.

According to the Red Book, these were also Standard Colors:

2410/2424 Silver Metallic
8410/8484 Metallic Blue
8110/8181 Metallic Red
8310/8383 Metallic Green

Red Book also shows a host of Special Order colors as well.
