Poly-Graphite Engine Mounts: Gap between bushing & Bolt????

In the rear, ('71 911) I just installed the Poly-Graphite Engine Mounts. BUT, there seems to be quite a gap (as much as a 16th) between the bolt shaft and the bushing that the bolts go through (bushings which came with the mounts). Is this supposed to be the case???

If I were to use a larger bolt, it wouldn't fit through the big cupped washers or the long engine plate that bolts to the engine (pully housing).

My original mounts did the same. I swapped to Wevos... love 'em.

John, what do you mean yours "did that"?

There is NO movement with everything bolted up. When putting the bolts in, there is some space between bolts and bushing. Once bolted tight, it may not matter a bit but I'm just curious. And yes, comparing, the stock mounts had a little space too, but not as much.

How was the install? I just ordered 2 sets and am curious. Did you press or burn the rubber out of the old mounts?

I burned them out. In retrospect, after pressing out the front/trans. mount rubber later (I'm using solids on the trans), I'd recommend pressing first. On the trans mounts, once I pressed the steel centers out, the rubber came out fairly easily.

In general, I think the poly mounts look like good quality, fit well, etc. Again, once bolted, they seemed fine and tight. No movement but I haven't run it yet. I hope to get it started this weekend and I'm auto-xing this weekend (and instructing at MidOhio next).

Sorry Eric... I was a little abstract, wasn't I?

I meant that my factory mounts changed in some way to the point that the rubber no longer touched the chassis when the bolts were torqued up, they appeared to sag - especially the gearbox mounts, I could physically move the gearbox by hand on the mounts. The metal tube that runs up the middle of the rubber appeared to be "too long" and touched the chassis before the rubber. Obviously the metal didn't grow, so I can only assume the rubber deteriorated.

Anyway, I went with the more expensive, but extremely pretty, Wevo semi-solid mounts at the engine and gearbox. They are terrific, I don't notice extra noise, and they seem to have improved shifting during high speed corners at the track.

Cheers

Just did mine, nice quality part. I did buy a couple longer 12x1.50 bolts as the poly mounts are thicker, at least on the top surface than the factory.

2 install tips-I removed the old rubber by putting one ear of the mount in a vice, heating the mount a bit, then heating the center bushing really hot-put a large screwdriver in the bushing and twisted it out, the rubber then comes out very easily and cleanly.
I had trouble getting a socket on the head of the two smaller bolts that hold the mount to the chassis-the poly insert is wider than stock and is up against the head, so I cut a clearance notch into the side of the poly w/ dremel.

I'll do the trans mounts later, and report back as to harshness. W/ stock trans mounts and poly engine mounts, no add'l vibration (noise is hard to tell, its a targa) and slightly improved shift feel.
