AC trouble shooting
Ok my 86 turbo's AC is dead. Last summer it would shut down when it was really hot but start up in the morning again. I checked the circuit breaker up front and the fuses. No fan, no compresser nothing ... Any ideas ??

Could be a bad relay. The relay in the smuggler box for my A/C was bad.

If it's like my '89, theres a console temperature knob that goes to a probe in the smugglers box - the idea is it will shut down the a/c if it ices or in the unlikely event the cabin gets too cold for comfort. Maybe this probe/switch is bad?
I replaced this entire circut with a toggle switch - the result is I can now turn A/C on/off independant of the fan, which is really nice when you don't need A/C. Hope this helps, Chuck.H '89 TurboLookTarga, 258k miles |
