Fuchs Fitment

Gents,

Merry Christmas to all and Happy holidays. I need to re-open a post I did a while back now that I have firm information.

Fuchs for '83 SC

I finally got around to breaking down the tires/wheels I bought and found the following numbers:
Front - 95162117 --- AS1062
Rear - 911362119 --- AS1062

Questions:
1. Will these fit an '83 SC with stock fender wells?
2. What size tires can I go with?

Sorry for re-asking but needed to now that I have the numbers. Would like to know before I waste a lot of money on new tires. Thanks again.

Tom

They shouldn't fit with stock fender wells, no. - Matt

Assuming that you meant to type 951.362.117, The fronts are 8 ET23.3 and are an extremely tight fit in front, some have used them but I wouldn't recommend it

the rears are 9ET15 and are a great fit on the back of an SC or Carrera

Not trying to be argumentative, but haven't there been a number of people who have trouble fitting the 9's on the rear of an SC or Carrera? I know they CAN fit, but for some it requires things like fender rolling, off-spec suspension adjustment and very careful tire choices. All of this is possible, of course, but I think it's important for people to know what they're getting into before they buy tires for a test mount. I could also be incorrect as I don't have any direct experience fitting 16x9 on a Carrera-flared car. - Matt

9's on the back aren't usually a problem but as Bill points out, the fronts can rub a little. I don't see the point in using anything larger than a set of 7's and 8's, with 205 and 225 width tires.

The 8's and 9's are worth more than the 7's and 8's so trading down would put some cash in his pocket.

9's on the rear are not a problem for the SC or Carrera. 8's on the front not only present fitment issues, but give a much heavier steering feel. My suggestion would be 7's on the front.

No, there is a lot of room in SC/Carrera rear wheel wells. 9x16ET15 from a late 930 is an excellent fit w/ 245/45 x16 tires Even on a very low car and w/o resorting to any setup tricks either.

9.5 x17 ET19 is extremely tight w/ 275/40 tires but a great fit w/ 255/40 tires

Fuchs 8ET23.3 are a tough fit but aftermarkets 8ET25-30 or so are a much happier fit w/ 225/tires the shorter the tire the better fit.

Yes, steering will be heavier both because of the wider tire and the change in scrub radius, it's a compromise, lots of us will give up some low speed parking ease for more high speed grip.

Thanks Bill. I may have been thinking of problems with narrower cars fitting 7's and/or 8's in the rear. Good to know, and thanks for the great info!

You spoke....and I'm listening...Thanks. You've convinced me to NOT use the 8x16s on the front. I don't want to roll the fenders or screw with the suspension geometry and I don't want to rip my front fenders off or cut new tires. Instead, I'm going to try and find two 7x16s for the front and go with the 9x16s I have for the rear.

Two more questions:
(1) Which 7x16s do I need to look for...911.362.115.00???
(2) I'm going to use the 9x16s for the rear with Bridgestone RE-11 245x45x16. The RE-11s also come in 205/45-16 and 225/50-16 and 205/55-16. Which should I use with the 7x16s so as not to rub the fenders? BTW I'm currently running 215/45-17 on the front and 245/45-17 on the rear with no clearance problems.

even 7x16 can be a tight fit on lowered cars
as long as it's a cosmetic match the part# doesn't matter, the 7xa6 Fuchs are all ET23.3. They were used on various 911 and 944 and have either 911 or 951 part #s

the 205/55 x16 is a tad taller than the 245/45 x16 Re11, the 205/45 x16 is more than an inch shorter.

either will work but the shorter the tire the fewer interference issues, the shorter tire will also rake the car more, maybe too much, it's not really a big deal to roll the fenders if necessary
