"The best of both worlds" is still a compromise.
I LOVE my Targa though, despite the wind noise. Coupes are prettier, but I like the look of the Targa. |
|
Everytime I see pictures of these cars the first thing that comes to mind is that my next p-car could easily be a targa.
3.6 SC/C3 Targa's http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089810738.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089810756.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089810768.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089810822.jpg early targas rock! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089810879.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1089160103.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1088878572.jpg |
OK I'm a Targa owner.......
The coupes do have beautiful lines.... gotta admit that But there aint nothin like the the wind in your hair and the sound of that flat 6 screaming up the hiway while the sun...or moon light fills the cabin. For me its the best of both worlds, and after having been on motorcycles for years it's hard to give up the wind in your hairhttp://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/vuur.gif |
I had a targa, but I have a miata now. I didn't do awhole lot of top off driving, but when I did it was great. Not tons of wind buffetting. My favorite time for top off driving was a nice clear cool night.
That rear window allows for greatvisibility. More headroom than a coupe. Other than that I think my next 911 will be a coupe. Mine did leak a bit sometimes. There is chassis flex, anyone who says there's not is crazy. Targas are great, but that's more because it's a 911 than about it being a targa. I'd like to try a non-sunroof coupe. I don't need a sunroof, I don't need to fight with sunroof motors, clogged drains, or the reduced headroom of a sunroof coupes. |
NEVER been a Targa fan. You really don't get THAT much more air between a coupe with a sunroof and a Targa top. I'd rather have the coupe that doesn't leak. But if you don't mind the wind noise or the infamous warped top with the Targa or the puddle on the floor or the wet pants when it rains then you're right, Targa's rock!

This thread should have been "What ISN'T wrong with a Targa?"
and it would've "sounded like Crickets" in here..... |
Defintely prefer the lines of my '86 coupe. Targas have a kind of hunchback look about them.

Porsche was a "sub contractor" for some of Harley's engines for their bikes. NEVER been a fan of "cruiser" (HARLEY) type bikes myself. So if I was ridden over by a Harley I would HOPE it was a bike with a Harley engine designed by Porsche!

Plain and simple-Targas effing Rock! Especially 3.6L powered ones with all the track goodies.

I loved my Targa. Top always fit snugly, never leaked, easy to pop on and off. The lines weren't as clean as a coupe, and the convertible effect not as complete as a cab, but what a unique joy it was.

Having had a 914, a 911 Coupe and 911 Cab, the Targa is the best of both worlds...You can't beat the open air driving of a 911
it adds an element of satisfaction not experienced by a coupe, even with a sun roof. Also, you can drive the Targa in a rain storm with the top down and not get wet.....as long as you are moving of course... Now if you want superiority on the track and less flex, drive a coupe, hands down, no agrument there. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1146889438.jpg |

Sorry, I'm just on a roll tonight about Targa's. Nothing personal. They are still a P-car, therefore I LOVE them. I think I need to join a support group.... :) |
Yep, targas are just down rite UUUGGLLYYYYYY!

Personally I like the coupe due to the uninterrupted lines. |

I like the fact that that the Targa roll bar is there and I have the wind in my hair....Drive a Targa and compare. Folks know the difference as I do. A coupe is more rigid and stable in certain circumstances, a cab is certaintly for the totally convertible crowd but the Targa.....I love it.... |
|
Thank you for clarifying that for me! Cause I've NEVER experienced a Targa top. Just never cared for the look PERSONALLY... I've been in coupe's, and caps, but never a Targa top.
