WTF: Caliper piston orientation

I rebuilt my caliper about a year ago. I made sure I aligned the pistons *perfectly*. Today I removed the caliper to install new rotors, and what do I find? Two things. First, the pistons have rotated to all sorts of positions. Second, the dust seals are fried.
  • Does anyone make high-temp dust seals?
  • Does it really matter what orientation the caliper piston have?

I believe the orientation is to prevent the leading edge applying more pressure than the rest, to reduce squeeling; but it is my opinion and worth about .02.

Rob:

Assuming that you have stock Carrera calipers, piston orientation is not critical like it is on 930 calipers,....

AFAIK, there is only the OEM seals for these calipers; if you are frying them, you have a severe temperature problem that will likely call for a caliper/rotor upgrade of some kind. Brake cooling kits do help in situations like these, but they simply are no substitute for a big brake upgrade.
