What does the S stand for?
What does the "s" stand for in the different Porsche models? I am looking at a couple of newer Porches but would like to know this. So far I understand that it could mean "super" or "sport". Would really like to know this.
Thanks in advance. David |

It really depends on the car in question. Porsche has used it's various labels in different ways through the years. Sometimes it means a lot, sometimes it's more marketing than anything. It usually denotes a higher performance version of the basic car. "Super" was probably the original meaning. In some markets (ie. the UK) it might mean "sport," as appplied to a certain optional package available at a particular time.
So, what car are we talking about here? JR

I'm not sure if it denotes a particular word such as sport or whatever, but it is the racing/performance variant with special brakes and suspension components plus a higher-output motor. On Ebay it usually translates to 'Spensive, whether it is an original or one that has been upgraded to the S specs. There is a lot of legend surrounding the older S models with the mechanical fuel injection, they are kind of the 'holy grail' of Porsches to some. Just keep in mind there really is no 'slow'
or 'low-performance' 911 - they are all purpose-built sports cars. Buy one and drive it, you won't regret it. Joe

it stands for STOP and Start over. That was first post, so the Pelican ritual is you 'Splain a bit about your car and maybe even put in a picture or two.
