Clutch question

Howdy everyone, new to the Forum but not to Porsche.

How long can one expect the stock clutch to last on my 88 Targa? It has been driven quite gently all of its 90,000 miles by my feather-footed father. And what is the rough cost for clutch R&R, and are there other items that should be done while you're in there?

You'll definitely want to do the cross shaft update when you do the clutch. The cost depends if you are doing it yourself or not. If you are having someone else do it and you don't do a bunch of "while you are there" stuff you can expect somewhere around 2k for parts & labor.

You can do the g50 upgrade and go to a spring center disk with a new flywheel and clutch and p/p for $1.000 DIY

Well, this type of project is a little beyond my skill level, so I'll end up taking it in.

Does anyone know how many miles you can typically get out of the stock G50 clutch?

I had about 105,000 on mine when it let go. I had the rubber centered one. It was a mess and smelled like holy hell, but I was still able to limp it home from the track. By the way, there was no warning, I upshifted from third to fourth at redline and that's all she wrote. Definitely do the shaft update while you're in there. With a spring centered clutch and the shaft update you won't believe how smoothe it will feel.

Good luck.
