Let me describe this as close as I can before you send me into search mode.
My passenger side window stopped working. (76-930) 2 switches on driver side and one on passenger side. driver side works fine but both passenger side switches do nothing the window stopped going up or down all the sudden? I checked fuses and relay - seems fine - what to do? thanks, |

Check this
Yes could be the switches. If not check the body plug where the door wiring harness attaches to the body. It's up under the fender between the door and fender, There are two, one on both sides.

Yeah, get a new switch. One of the few things on these cars that was probably underengineered. They go out fairly often.
But then we are talking about a 30 year old car so maybe not underengineered afterall ![]()

You might possibly break the switch you are wanting to move and then you will be out 2 switches. We are talking about an inexpensive part. Even if it is not the switch you are only out about 20 bucks. It is thirty years old man. Treat your car to a new thing or two

Most likely the switch, it could be the passenger switch on either door that's causing the problem. Last time I had this problem it was one on the driver's door.

The money isn't the issue here, the fact that we have a great form such as this to guide some of us that are less mechanically inclined then those of you is a blessing we appreciate. anyhow, I had unplugged both the passenger switch from the driver side and plugged it back and did the same on the passenger side switch. now the window works from the driver side switch and the window goes up and down. strange but works. will buy a new switch for passenger side. thanks for your help. |

Craig?
![]() Which of those wires is for the felt runner? ![]() I think now that I've read enough of this thread, I'll "switch" to another one. You will certainly understand how I could have "felt" this way...... ![]() LOL ![]() ![]() |

The common connections for both passenger window switches would be power and ground. The passenger window switch on the drivers door is actually the master and the passenger side switch is the slave in regard to the power and ground routing. Here is a link to something I posted a couple of weeks ago that shows how the switches re-route the ground so that the motors work.

I remember looking at that diagram, we were discussing this same problem.
I have my wiring color coded same and tried a new switch still does not work It may look like a bad ground.... what do you think? someone suggested a bad ground on the driver switch (passenger window) ? |

jtkkz..if the passenger side window switch works that indicates that power is being applied to both sets of terminals on both switches. It would appear that you do not have a power issue. Because the passenger side window switch can operate the power window motor that indicates that the switch, the motor and the ground connections in the passenger door are all good.
Since you have replaced the passenger switch on the DRIVERS DOOR..that would lead me to think that the ground connection to THAT switch is bad. The schematic shows the ground going directly to the Drivers Side window switch with a short jumper going to the passenger window switch [on the drivers door]. That jumper may be bad. Have you attached a meter the that ground wire to test for continuity? Since you say that the drivers window switch works you could remove the ground wire from that switch and attach it to the neighboring passenger window switch to test this 'bad ground' theory.
