starting issues

Hi Guys,
I have finally been reunited with my 911 after 3 yrs absence and we are relocated to S France!!!.
New home and plenty of twisty roads with spectacular scenery to follow.

I am currently trying to figure out why my engine turns over slowly for the initial rotation of the starter motor?. After the initial rotation, it turns over normal (faster) speed.
I wondered it it could be due to a High compression motor? (10:1).
I still have the dual battery system but want to change to the single battery- but am leary to do this before I can start properly on 2!!.
I need to go single battery to fit an oil cooler in the front right wheel arch.
I have checked the battery connections and have removed the batteries for independant charge. I have not load tested the batteries - but guess this maybe the next step.
Possible starter motor problem? or do they either work or not work?.

Any help appreciated
Rgds Ben

South of France. Send us some pics when you get there.

I think you should test your batteries as you mentioned, but I'm leaning toward an old, dried-up-grease starter/solenoid being the problem, coupled w/ your compression.

I recently put a new high torque starter on my 77, w/ hi comp (10.3:1) engine. Works great, even in the cold.

load test the battery.

an over advanced ignition timing will cause that also.

Thanks, I will try all of the above,
Will, I am actually in a village called 'Roquefort Les Pins', which is 30mins inland from Cannes and 30 mins from Nice. It is also 1 hr from Monaco.
Once I am settled here and the car running right I will try and post pics!.
Ronin, you may have a point with the timing as I need to try and adjust it as I beleive it is running rich.
The batteries appear in good condition although I will have them load tested.
Thanks again guys.
I will try and get onto testing these issues and post soon.
Rgds Ben
