stained paint -- help

I've got a bit of an issue. I washed and waxed the car today. After washing, I took it for a short drive to blow any remaining water out. When I got back, I proceeded to the waxing.

Everything was fine until I got to the the engine lid. I was using liquid type wax BTW. So I poured a little wax on the lid, rubbed it in, and buffed it out. Now I have what appears to be a light stain on the paint just where the wax was poured. I guess this is because the engine lid was still warm.

Anyway, I tried stripping the wax and re-doing it, but the stain is still there. Any suggestions on how to get this off my paint.

Thanks. Sorry, no pics. Wife out of town with the digicam.

I would try washing w/ hot soap and water first. Perhaps one of those enviro friendly thinners (NOT lacquer thinner). Then if reqd some polishing compound or clay bar.

I would try and wash just the decklid with dish detergent. This *should* strip all of the wax off, and give you a 'clean base' to start off with. I've done that with all of my cars that I've purchased used. This way, I know where I'm starting with a car.

Of course, you know you need to go back and put a coat of wax on it after you strip it with the detergent.

Garage
Go to the autopia.org site and ask there. That site is to detailing what Pelican is to Porsches, but a warning, if you linger there too long you may wind up with a garage full of new products. However, I can about guarantee that you'll never clean your car like you used to nor will it have ever looked so good.

Good luck!
