I need some starter help now

I'm under the car, I'm covered in filth, I mean that nasty filth, I got my old starter out and I got the new starter in, when I ran into a hitch. I've got the red power, the #50 and the #16 electrical connections hooked up. But I got this left over wire that looks like a ground. I don't remember taking it off. In the pic it is the large wire in the close up. According to the Bently manual it looks like this should attach to the rear of the starter and not the solenoid. But I didn't remove anything from the starter when I took it out. In fact unless this was attached to where the starter bolts to the tranny I don't remember removing it. With that said it won't reach to bolt where the starter meets the tranny. Does anyone have any idea where this freaking thing goes?

Thanks
Ryan

one big wire goes to the battery, and one goes to the alt. on my car, both wires go on the big post at the solenoid.

really really check this. i am working with my "friday" memory.

You know I was thinking they both came off the same post, where I have the red wire in the pic, but then I started thinking no that can' t be right, and after being under there looking at it I don't know if that is right or not. Plus I think I'm wearing half the crap from under there.

You'll need a large cable from the battery to the starter. When the ignition circuit activates the solenoid through the smallish wire, it throws the starter motor\gear out and causes a direct connection from the battery to the starter motor to occur. If that large cable goes to the battery, it needs to be connected to the large post on the starter.
