Shifter hangs up when shifting from 1st to 2nd

New owner of a 1984 911...On frequent occassion, I get hung up when shifting from 1st to 2nd gear or downshifting to 2nd. You cannot shift very smoothly from 1st to 2nd. It does not make any grinding noise, it just doesn't let you complete the shift without using a little leverage (No doubt that something is not right). Shifting through 3rd, 4th, and 5th is no problem. Is this a linkage problem that can be resolved with an easy adjustment. Any recommendations?

Regards,

Jay

yes guys, there is an adjustment. It is usually behind your front seats and they are minor adjustments, but let someone else perform them. As easy as they sound to make, they end up taking more time than they are worth.
