Question Ignition Problem

What are the symptons of a bad ignition coil or wire?
This morning, my '78 SC would crank , but not fire.
The coil wire seemed a little loose, I pulled it and the brass connectors were dull, I cleaned them up, put the wire back in and it fired up.
It is the original coil and wire I believe.

Thanks,
Bob
