Carpet kit question

About to order a carpet set for a race car, probably from Appbiz.

The interior is stripped, and the interior rear quater panels were removed.

Since I am putting in a cage and do not need to cover any seatbelts, can I just cover the sides with carpet, or do I need to recover some other panels in matching vinyl?

Does anyone have any good pics of this area after redone.

Thanks.

Mark,

You can carpet or use side panels from an early car. Attached are pic of my early side panel with rollbar.

While you are prepping your car for the track, I am going the other way taking my 911 back to street. As such, I have installed stock belts and will be installing later panels like yours that have the pocket for the belt's inertia reels. As such, my early side panels that have been cut for the roolbar mounts will be for sale. Let me know if you are interested in them. I would also be interest in trading them for yours if they are black. Thanks

Mark, I can't upload a pic right now on my slow dial-up, but I eliminated my side panels back there and just installed the carpet that came with my rs carpet kit. I then re-installed my seat belt reels over the carpet after spruceing them up a bit and they look fine. I did recover and re-install the thin upper trim strip below the window with some extra vinyl that I asked for with my black vinyl rs door panels. Have fun installing the carpet kit, it is kind of a pain figuring out how and where to fit them.
I took my time and layed them all out and eventually got them all installed cleanly.

I cut holes through my side panels and mounted the bar directly to the steel underneath.

Here are a couple of pics that show my rs carpet that replaced the vinyl covered side covers.

Here are a before and during to show the difference.

Tim,

Thanks! That is exactly the picture I needed. I think I saw your project on some posts a few months back I remember the clips on the b-pillar.

Two questions:
Did the carpet that covers your panels come with the appbiz set?
Is that the rear deck delete kit in the back?

Thanks.

In what way does carpet make you go faster?

I also ordered an RS carpet kit but have not installed it...I completly stripped and repainted the interior and would prefer to monitor any rust than cover up with carpet.

I left it off and will install it in my spare car. But it has no place in a "race car," as you describe yours.

Mark, I bought my kit from Original Fit Interiors, but I have heard that they are about the same as Appbiz. The carpet for the sides, did indeed come with the RS kit. The rear deck pc came with the kit as well and it fit where the old vinyl covered speaker/deck pc used to be. It took me awhile to figure out how the side pcs were supposed to lay and lap in with the other pcs for a clean look.

John,

I agree with you on the interior of a race car and its impact on performance. However, I run in a stock class and have to keep an interior in it.

I did the appbiz kit. It worked fine and looks very similar to Tim's pics.

I just bought an Appbiz kit for my cabriolet on Ebay. After waiting about week, I emailed them to ask if they'd received my payment. They said that they were "out of the blue carpet". Nice! They auction off mechandise which they do not possess, and have to MAKE it to make the auction good. Fraudlulent! Can't recommend them. They need to make items before offering them for auction on ebay as already extant.

Just a word of caution, some racing bodies are funny about rules. (And I think thats probably good..a rule is a rule)...but if they say "Stock"., then maybe they mean "stock"???

Rules can always be interpreted differently, but I have never heard of anyone DQ'ed in PCA racing as long as they have a complete interior, regardless if it was the factory interior. The scrutes are looking for door panels, seats, and limited exposed metal.

But Jake you are right, the book says:

"H. Interiors, with the exception of seats (which may be replaced, not removed) and the panels affected by the installation of the roll bar or roll cage, must be as delivered by the factory."

Since I am putting in a full custom cage, I'm not worried that this will be a replacement carpet set.

- From what I hear he is not fraudulent at all. He just uses EBay as a front end to handle his selling online and is a decent guy -- but he is a very small business, so he can't "cover" very well.

Why don't you call him and ask when it will be in. Cancel your order if you need to.

Mail order places have to cancel under certain circumstances, but I don't recall what time length that is.

Bob (robert) is a stand up guy, I have bought and sold many of his carpet kits in the last few years. Good product and I have found him very good to deal with.

Mark, the carpet will replace the side panels the car came with.

Cheers

But this was an AUCTION. You can't auction off an item which you do not posess. he should have stated that the auction was for a paid order, not an item.
